The Northern Tier Children's Home is an organization which was started by Miss Jesse VanDusen in 1916. The Children's Home covers 270 rural acres in Harrison Valley, PA and provides housing and care for male and female youth, 12 to 18 years old, who are in need emergency care. Education is provided by the Children's Home, but housing is only temporary, 30 days maximum, because of the many who need help. The Northern Tier Children's Home also offers other services to children such as mental health treatment, psychiatric services, and other services. The proceeds from all of the Thrift Stores benefit the Children's Home by giving funds for recreational activities, field trips, furniture, and other things for the children who are staying at the Northern Tier Children's Home.
